United we stand

Article Abstract:

All possible areas of conflict should be addressed and analysed before companies commit financially and commercially to a joint venture. Clear objectives should be set out when establishing a joint venture, setting out procedures to deal with disputes which are agreed upon before contracts are signed. Many problems arise in joint ventures when decision-making processes become confused and conflict occurs. Arrangements must be made at the beginning of the joint venture to agree upon methods of decision-making.

New technology may prove mixed blessing for economic development in isolated regions

Article Abstract:

Telecommunications can help the development of isolated regions in the UK, it has been argued, but under 1% of the work force works at home as teleworkers. These people tend to be very skilled and live in urban areas, usually working on a self-employed basis. Distance working allows companies to locate some functions in isolated areas without costs rising. This may mean relocation of work outside the UK, as has happened with British Airways which uses employees in India to process bookings.
