Farm size, productivity, and public policy in the Argentine interior

Article Abstract:

Research was conducted to examine the inverse relation between farm size and efficiency in the Argentine interior. The belief in this inverse relation has persisted among economists. However, the continued existence of large farms has provided an anomaly that can be explained by the fact that they tend to have higher profit rates than small farms that may have zero or negative profit rates. Results suggest several programs that could improve the efficiency of the agricultural economy as well as the incomes of the impoverished minifundistas of Argentina.

Agricultural policies, macroeconomic policies, and producer price incentives in developing countries: cross-country results for major crops

Article Abstract:

A study aimed at finding out how agricultural and macroeconomic policies have affected the average level of producer prices in developing countries reveals that both policies are important since they are the source of total net protection. Macroeconomic policies highly affect the average level of producer prices, its flow and instability. However, in most cases, agricultural policy is more influential compared with macroeconomic policy with respect to total net protection.

The effect of government policies on agricultural prices and output in a developing country

Article Abstract:

A model is developed for Ghana to study the effects of alternative government policies on agricultural price and output. Consumer prices of food and nonfood products in the model are determined by demand and supply in the market. The objective of the study is to derive a suitable agricultural model for Ghana for evaluating stabilization and adjustment programs such as those proposed by the IMF and the World Bank.
