A fashion label that really is to die for ...

Article Abstract:

The case of the murder in 1995 of Maurizio Gucci, the last family member to run the House of Gucci fashion business, has taken a new twist with the recent arrest of his former wife Patrizia. It is now believed that she arranged the murder, which was undertaken by a professional hitman. The Gucci family has always been afflicted by many conflicts, and there have been a number of incidents of physical violence in the past. Decadence and extreme emotions have now served to severely damage the family's reputation.

God's Banker: 'He was given Mafia money and he made poor use of it.' (investigation into death of Italian banker Roberto Calvi in 1982 may soon be concluded)

Article Abstract:

Police in Italy are now of the opinion that banker Roberto Calvi, who was found hanging from a piece of scaffolding underneath Blackfriars Bridge in London, England, on Jun 18, 1982, was killed by the Mafia. It is believed that he misused or embezzled large sums of Mafia money and that he was a danger to the Mafia because he could have revealed his Mafia connections to the state authorities. Arrest warrants have now been issued for Sardinian businessman Flavio Carboni and Cosa Nostra treasurer Pippo Calo.

Rome turns a blind eye to Mafia's killing spree

Article Abstract:

Mafia attacks in Sicily have left at least nine people dead in recent weeks, and many observers believe that more killings will follow. There seems to be a revival in Mafia power, and this will continue if the Italian government fails to take firm action. The Mafia is recovering from the capture in 1993 of Salvatore Riina, its most powerful leader, and appears to be free to pick victims at will.
