Agents on mission to kill

Article Abstract:

Captain Pamela du Randt and Leon Flores, South African intelligence agents, met an Ulsterman at Heathrow Airport, England on Apr 11 1992 but following a tip-off MI5 followed and detained them under the Prevention of Terrorism Act. They were planning to assassinate police defector Dirk Coetzee, who came to Britain for asylum in Mar 1991. The South African President, Mr de Klerk, was informed and ordered a full investigation into uncontrolled elements in intelligence.

Steadfastly towards the abyss

Article Abstract:

Talks between the South African government and the African National Congress fell apart over the issue of the required majority in the assembly and war seems probable. Any deal would be difficult to succeed as the people might not support it when they are grieving over the massacre of 28 ANC marchers, and since it is difficult to democratise a poor society with no chance of improving its living standards. The Ciskei killings may prevent talks for months.

Guns, missile blueprints and the Ulster connection

Article Abstract:

About 150 South African agents, some of them British private detectives, operate in Britain. The attempt to obtain the latest British anti-aircraft technology from the Belfast company Shorts about the anti-aircraft missile Starstreak led to the arrest of three Ulstermen, a South African diplomat and a US arms dealer in Paris. The London offices of ANC and Swapo were bombed and attempts to kidnap and possibly murder ANC members were made in 1987.
