Annan visit is last chance to settle

Article Abstract:

United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan believes that he has a reasonable chance of averting US military action against Iraq through his forthcoming visit to Iraq. He has pointed out that Iraq seems willing to approach negotiations positively. However, the US is giving clear indications that it is losing patience with Iraq, and UK Prime Minister Tony Blair is also taking a tough stance. Both the UK and the US feel that it is now up to Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein to make concessions.
