Blair's big beauty contest

Article Abstract:

Tony Blair, UK Labour Party leader, has reshuffled the shadow cabinet, but its members will not necessarily retain their positions if Labour wins the next general election before summer-1997. Their performance as members of the shadow cabinet, and the way they develop and promote their departments' policies will decide whether they remain members. If the party does come to power it is possible that Blair could replace some of the current shadow cabinet with Liberal Democrats or modernists within the Labour Party.
