Brave new man

Article Abstract:

The menswear collections shown in Paris, France, have indicated a significant shift away from tightly defined images of masculinity. Designers have made extensive use of patchwork textures in shirts, jeans and jackets, and have shown a preference for gemstone colours such as emerald and ruby. The Comme des Garcons collection included a jacket in dusty pink suede, worn with gingham cotton trousers, while Belgian designer Walter van Beirendonck used men wearing dresses, leggings and ponchos.

The very height of fashion

Article Abstract:

Fashion designer Paul Smith is very traditionally English, but has also developed international appeal. He has attracted admiration for his modest, down-to-earth approach, which is unusual in the fashion industry. His business success can be attributed to hard work, an ability to spot the next trend, good business practice and a certain amount of luck. Many people emphasize that he has retained his integrity despite his great success.
