Latest children's films have complex characters, innocent sexual innuendo and references to books, films and television programmes. These characteristics are seen in 'Rugrats,' which has become the leading cartoon show on US television and has also been released in a film version. This show contains humour and knowing references, but also has hidden delights that are absorbed gradually over time. The main premise of 'Rugrats' is that the young children featured are no less immature in their own way than their parents.
