Farm it from the sea

Article Abstract:

The seaweed industry is increasing. About 4 million tons of seaweed was harvested internationally. Most is consumed in Asia. Seaweed is used as cosmetics, drugs, animal feed, fertilisers and food. Breton company Ceva (Centre D'Etude et de Valorisation des Algues) aims to produce 600 tons of the Japanese seaweed Undaria. The Isle of Man company Seaweed Supplies Limited aims to produce 200 tons of UK brown kelp Alaria. The kelp usually ends up as dried flakes, pastes or liquids. Both companies sell direct to food companies rather than direct to the public.
