Galliano meets his maker

Article Abstract:

John Galliano, who has a first-class degree from Central St Martin's School of Art and Design, moved to Paris to start afresh backed by French designer and manufacturer Faycal Amor. Galliano has his own way of cutting fabric in the round so that it clings to the body. He has a hi-tech factory at Chatellerault, near Poitiers. The eccentric British creativity will be fostered by a London design base, with workshops in London and Paris and production in Paris. Galliano will keep control of his business but Amor will organise the financial side.

Who is that guy everyone's talking about?

Article Abstract:

Fashion designer Martin Margiela is most fashionable in spring 1993 after years of being 'underground.' His clothes are mixtures of parts of high street and flea market clothes in unconventional materials. His designs offer new ways of wearing garments. Margiela lives in Paris but comes from Genk, Flanders. He studied fashion at the Antwerp Academy of Fine Art and kept applying to Jean Paul Gaultier until they employed him. He set up on his own in 1988, designing for Italian manufacturers to subsidise himself.

In the black-white-rock-fashion world

Article Abstract:

Joe Casely-Hayford's spring 1993 collection is soft and romatnic. He calls his beautiful garments with simple, traditional design the New Couture. They have a romantic, 1930's feel. His business went into receivership in summer 1992 but many orders from rock musicians helped him make a comeback. Casely-Hayford, son of a Ghanian lawyer, believes in cultural and racial mix in fashion design.
