How the Swiss will transform Bankside ...

Article Abstract:

Swiss architects Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron will be responsible for the Tate Gallery's project to transform Bankside Power Station into a new gallery of modern art. They plan to make only a few changes to the basic structure of the building, thus protecting the Tate Gallery from attack by conservationists and avoiding having to spend large sums of money on external work. The scheme will include layers of glass walling on the north front and a glazed steel box on the top of the building to support the weight of the galleries below.

They're so modern

Article Abstract:

The fact that the new museum and art gallery in Walsall, England, will be located next to two new supermarkets will have a positive impact on visitor numbers, according to architects Peter St John and Adam Caruso, who are responsible for the scheme. They believe that the museum and art gallery will be at the centre of life in the town, attracting ordinary people and acting as a meeting place. They have planned a very original design for the building.

In Bell Street there's a beacon of white light

Article Abstract:

Tony Fretton has designed a Bell Street facade for the Lisson Gallery in Bell Street, London, with a warehouse look most suitable for a market street. The glass-front gallery has a large warehouse door for exhibits and connects on the first floor to the Lisson Gallery, allowing two differing exhibitions to run simultaneously. The top stories house living space for artists, and the whole development is liked by local people.
