I sing the body bruised

Article Abstract:

The work of poet and playwright Tony Harrison, who is currently celebrating his 60th birthday, has touched many people in the UK through newspapers and television. He has always been very determined to secure a wide audience for poetry, and has also worked on reconnecting poetry with theatre. He is particularly well known for the complex nature of the long sequence of poems about his family. These poems, which resemble sonnets, form a documentary account of his childhood.

The leaver of the pack

Article Abstract:

Actress Ally Sheedy recognizes that she has had to become accustomed to rejection. She gained a high profile as a child and a teenager, but her career subsequently floundered. However, she is now making a comeback in Lisa Cholodenko's debut feature 'High Art.' She feels that she has waited many years for this film, and she identifies very closely with her character, Lucy Berliner, an arthouse photographer.

Rimbaud mentality

Article Abstract:

The influence of 19th century symbolist poet Arthur Rimbaud continues to be seen in modern society. His work inspired 'Visions,' a production by the Richard Alston Dance Company, for example, and some 60,000 copies of a recent Pocket Penguin edition of his last poem have been sold. His relationship with fellow poet Paul Verlaine is the subject of 'Total Eclipse,' a film by Agnieszcka Holland.
