If Israel exists, then so does Palestine

Article Abstract:

The agreement reached recently between Palestine and Israel regarding the future of Hebron makes it possible for Palestine and the international community to abandon the illusion that the Palestinian lands seized by Israel in 1967 are 'disputed' rather than occupied. It is clear that the state of Palestine already exists, and Palestinian statehood is not an issue in the negotiations which are set to reach an agreement by May 1999. The existence of the state of Palestine is not conditional on acceptance by Israel.

Opera producer Simon Callow first became aware of the enormous power of live opera when he attended a performance of Puccini's 'Il trittico' which was produced by and featured Tito Gobbi. He then attended many other operas, and became captivated by personalities such as Geraint Evans and Boris Christoff. The first opera he directed was 'Cosi fan tutte.'
