Policyholders in Equitable Life will receive an additional 250 million pounds sterling if they accept a compromise arrangement designed to limit unmanageable liabilities. Those with a guaranteed annuity rate are to receive an average increase of 17.5% to the value of the policy, with those not having a guarantee receiving around 2.5%.

Equitable deal offers 'stability, not nirvana.'

Article Abstract:

Equitable Life policyholders have generally been disappointed by the mutual life assurer's plans for the redistribution of its assets. Some 70,000 policyholders with guaranteed annuity rate pensions will receive an average 17.5% rise in the value of their policy, but must sign over rights to the guarantee.
