Metal guru: Lakshmi Mittal, the steel magnate who wants to be a media player

Laksmi Mittal is a businessman involved in the steel industry who has also invested in the B4u satellite TV channel geared to Bollywood movies. Ispat International is a conglomerate corporation which ranks sixth in the world steel industry, and he has acquired a number of steel companies that were making losses, and they have subsequently reported profits. He joined the family steel concern after studying at university, and Ispat International was later separated from the family concern.

Another revamp for Sky Movies

Article Abstract:

Under fire from subscribers for its rises in charges, satellite television channel Sky is relaunching its movie channels with a package of three channels replacing Sky Movies One and Two. The new Premier channel will offer major box-office hits, while the second will focus on more artistic films, and the third on 'classic' films. After digital broadcasting is introduced, there will be 11 channels offering films at various start times.

Scotland's new elite seal 45m satellite deal

Article Abstract:

UK satellite broadcaster Sky agreed a four-year contract with the Scottish Premiership on 3 June 1998 which will lead to 30 football matches being shown from the 1998-1999 season. The GB 45mn deal includes league matches only but including cup games increases the overall worth to football in Scotland to GB 80mn-GB 85mn. The existing contract is worth just GB 12mn and covers Coca-Cola Cup, Scottish Cup and League matches.
