Article Abstract:

Black and Asian writers find it extremely hard to be accepted in the UK, according to Mike Phillips. He has published eight thrillers and won several awards, but feels that he is still regarded as an outsider. He believes that the modern obsession with black culture is extremely damaging, and is highly critical of the corruption and violence which characterize black life in inner city locations in the UK and the US. He is now moving away from crime writing because he can no longer tolerate people dismissing or ignoring what he is describing.

There were many comic and sometimes rather strange events associated with the early days of commercial television in the UK, according to writer and director Ned Sherrin. He studied law at university, but became a floor manager with commercial television in 1955. He opened a commercial television station in Birmingham, England, and later began to appear on television himself. He still greatly enjoys appearing on television, and is prepared to be involved with many different kinds of programme.
