My, how she's grown

Article Abstract:

Adolescence involves a great deal of humiliation, according to filmmaker and writer Tamara Jenkins. She deals with this subject in 'The Slums of Beverly Hills,' a film set in the 1970s which draws on her own experiences of adolescence. She grew up as a poor person in a rich neighbourhood, and feels that being on the outskirts of wealth gave her a large inferiority complex. She wanted the film to portray honestly how people react to girls when they go through adolescence.
