Serious games

Article Abstract:

Children's play can often seem to be random and unstructured, but in many cases it is actually a precise representation in miniature form of the real world. There are complex spatio-temporal configurations into which sound, colour, speech and movement are integrated, and its design aspects are extremely advanced. These structures can serve as a valuable model in the new world of information. It is clear that existing understanding of literacy is insufficient, and that new forms of expression must be taken into consideration.

The geek gets serious

Article Abstract:

Wealthy publishing magnate Steve Forbes was not really taken very seriously when he first began campaigning for the Republican party's presidential nomination. However, he has proved surprisingly popular, and is now running ahead of Robert Dole, the Republican Senate leader, in opinion polls in advance of the New Hampshire primary. He has the advantage of being able to fund his own campaign, and being 'independent' in this way has made him very attractive to voters.

Comedy could get you into serious trouble

Article Abstract:

Defamation lowers the perception of a person by 'right-thinking members of society' but their definition of it depends on their sense of humour. Comedy is not to be taken seriously so may not be legally defamatory. Television comedy depends on delivery and audience reaction as well as the text so it is harder to define defamation. Satire often includes items which are more nearly defamatory as the context can be ambiguous.
