Strong-pound Labour and weak-pound Tories

Article Abstract:

The UK Labour and Conservative parties are both pursuing economic policies which could result in serious difficulties. If the Conservative party continues with its extensive pre-election boosting of the economy, then there may be a monetary excess, and the government would probably be faced with a very large structure budget deficit. The Labour party plans to boost saving and investment rates in order to bring about a higher trend rate of growth, but this will probably not be possible if it has to meet other pressures resulting from the day-to-day running of government.
