The border is a state of mind

Article Abstract:

The divide between the Protestant and Catholic communities in Northern Ireland is still as strong today as it was at the time of the Bloody Sunday massacre in 1972. It has been very hard to uncover the truth about what happened on that day, just has it has in the case of the massacre of Shiite Muslim demonstrators in Beirut in Nov 1993. In Northern Ireland, there will still be psychological divisions between communities, even if one day it becomes possible to create a united Ireland.

Ballot-rigging claims mar Mubarak's win

Article Abstract:

There were many incidents of electoral violations in the recent poll in Egypt, which was won by president Hosni Mubarak, according to the Egyptian Organisation of Human Rights. In almost all Cairo constituencies, party representatives were expelled during the vote, and it is believed that ballot boxes were filled with cars made out in the name of National Democratic Party candidates. There were even five deaths during the voting period.

The Syrian vision of peace

Article Abstract:

Syrian President Hafez al-Assad is aware of the dangers of being seen to be holding up the Middle East peace process. He is very cautious about accepting Israel's version of peace, as this may mean that Syria becomes overwhelmed by conditions it cannot meet. However, he recognizes that if he refuses to agree to Israel's version of peace, Syria will be seen as opposing peace and run the risk of becoming an enemy of the US.
