The ethics girls and boys of West Kidlington Primary School

Article Abstract:

A strong social and moral basis is vital to children's academic success, as well as to their emotional and spiritual growth, according to Neil Hawkes, headteacher at West Kidlington Primary School near Oxford, England. He believes that the school's positive value programme, which involves considering a particular concept, such as peace, for a month at a time, has had a very positive impact on the way the children interact and behave. He believes that it is vital never to criticize a child, only his or her behaviour.

Freebies - a real benefit or a token gesture?

Article Abstract:

A report in Which? magazine has raised questions about whether schemes run by large UK firms in which vouchers are collected to obtain equipment for schools actually offer value for money. Some observers feel that marketing to children in this way is unacceptable, while others argue that it provides badly needed resources.
