The judgements of Scottish business are what matter

Article Abstract:

The views of people who really care about Scotland and its industry are those that really matter in relation to assessing the appointment of Gus Macdonald as Scottish industry minister. The Conservative party and Scottish separatists have opposed his appointment, but it has been welcomed by Scottish business leaders, who feel that Macdonald will really understand their needs. He brings valuable experience and knowledge to the ministerial team at the Scottish Office, and will really work for Scottish industry and employment.

No Sassenachs please, we're Scottish

Article Abstract:

Scottish Television is expected to acquire Caledonian, which publishes the Herald and the Glasgow Evening Times, for 120 million pounds sterling. Caledonian had intended to become stock exchange listed, but changed its mind in favour of the acquisition, possibly because it was concerned that financial institutions in the City of London were dubious about the listing of regional newspapers given recent events in the industry. If the acquisition goes ahead, it means that the newspaper will remain under Scottish control.

Till Scottish law do us part

Article Abstract:

Arranged marriages between Asians may be annulled in Scotland since Lord Sutherland heard a debate of legal issues and principles in Jan 1993. The judge decided that Scottish law would make null a marriage when one party is forced into marriage against their will. In several cases Asians have been emotionally blackmailed or threatened into marriage. One partner often leaves immediately. The Court of Session has dealt with three such cases.
