A biographer's backyard

Article Abstract:

Author Michael Holroyd feels that his decision to write his family history, entitled 'Basil Street Blues,' stemmed from feelings that developed over many years. The need to tackle this work became particularly insistent after he finished his biography of Bernard Shaw. He made use of hand-written accounts written by his parents in the late 1970s at his request, but emphasizes that at that time he did not realize that these accounts would subsequently assist him.
