There's profit in empowerment of your people

Article Abstract:

Many senior managers in the UK emphasize that people are the most important asset of their business, but few are actually prepared to give their staff any real power. However, recent research indicates that placing strong emphasis on people-management can bring significant business benefits. It has been shown that people-management is much more significant than the other aspects of management and can greatly affect profits and productivity. Employee job satisfaction can improve company performance, and organizational culture is an indication of company performance.

Consensus should apply to both rich and poor

Article Abstract:

The World Bank has issued a report reviewing the Washington Consensus, a group of policy prescriptions for developing countries which emerged from a conference in 1990 sponsored by the Institute for International Economics. This report states that the orthodox economic policies embraced by the Washington Consensus were incomplete, rather than incorrect. The original Washington Consensus prompted very strong growth in the countries that adopted it, but failed to acknowledge the importance of the institutional structure of economies.

All that clusters could be gold - for Britain plc

Article Abstract:

It is clear that business clusters can be very successful, but there is a lack of coherent strategy in the UK, either at national or local level, to encourage the development of business clusters. There is an urgent need for national coordination of the competing subsidies made available by different geographical areas to potential inward investors. There is also a need to create clear links between different policy areas, including education, housing and transport.
