Top Labour politicians condemn election team

Article Abstract:

Politicians have alleged that the draft Labour campaign strategy manifesto was not seen by members concerned with the policies therein and that it disagreed with previous policy decisions. A major sentence referring to amount of expenditure was omitted, giving the Conservatives ammunition. There was doubt about the election of decision-makers such as Lord Hollick and Patricia Hewitt. Ms Hewitt was responsible for coordinating the manifesto and raising the issue of proportional representation with Mr Kinnock only a week before the election.

Cometh the election, cometh the smear

Article Abstract:

At election time newspapers tend to promote the party with which they sympathise and to look for scandal in any opposing side, this information then often distributed by the rest of the media. Most of the tabloids and their proprieters have a close relationship with the Conservative Party and have used tricks to elicit information about Labour. The television and radio news producers tend to follow the press without investigating stories properly.

Sir Harry Boyne

Article Abstract:

Journalist Henry Boyne was a leading political correspondent in the era when the Parliamentary Lobby system still operated according to old traditions. He undertook his work with great dignity and skill, and found it hard to delegate to his juniors. After his retirement, he worked as a court usher at the Old Bailey, and in the early 1980s was for a time Director of Communications at the Central Office of the UK Conservative party.
