UK: SPECULATION OVER SALE OF TOMKINS' BREAD UNIT

Article Abstract:

There is growing speculation over the future of Tomkins' Rank Hovis McDougall bread division, which is responsible for well-known products such as Mr Kipling cakes and Hovis loaves. The disposal would allow the conglomerate to concentrate on its gun manufacturer, Smith & Wesson. Although the bread unit would be a good investment for private equity group Hicks Muse Tate & Furst, which owns rival producer Hillsdown, many analysts predict that the company may float on the stock market.
