Welcome to their worlds

Article Abstract:

The main challenge when designing a computer game aimed at adults is to create a completely believable spell, according to Rand Miller, who created the extremely successful game Myst with his brother Robyn. The brothers have now linked with Josh Staub, art director for their company Cyan, to create Riven, a sequel to Myst. This is now being released in PlayStation format. They used many different sources of inspiration to form the extremely small details of texture in Riven, and Staub placed strong emphasis on interaction with the environment.

Keyboards versus creativity

Article Abstract:

Authors tend to have mixed views about whether using a computer helps them or hinders them in their work. Some feel that using a pen or a pencil is the best way to unlock their creativity, while others find that a computer is valuable for at least some elements of their work. Some experts believe that using a computer liberalizes the act of writing too much, encouraging writers to be careless because they can delete their work again very easily.
