What really turns men on

Article Abstract:

Television viewers in the UK have until recently had only a very limited choice of channels, but have enjoyed high standards of broadcasting. This is set to change as more and more viewers are prepared to pay additional fees for cable and satellite services. Within this trend, television coverage of sporting events is particularly significant. Sport is one of the few things which wealthy men watch, and is also different from other television products because of its immediacy. It is therefore a key area for any television company looking to widen its scope.

'I do' ... and this time they seem to mean it

Article Abstract:

There has been a 4% fall in the proportion of babies born to unmarried mothers in the US since 1994, and the divorce rate is forecast to fall to 40%, from the current 50%. Figures also indicate that the proportion of people living alone is no longer rising, family size has stopped falling and the total fertility rate has almost returned to the replacement rate of 2.1. There are early signs of a similar trend taking place in the UK, with moves towards slightly larger families and the divorce rate having fallen a little.

Warning lights are flashing in the US: a slowdown is on the way

Article Abstract:

It is clear that the US economy will begin to slow down at some stage. It is possible that interest rates will not change and that the economy will begin to slow down by itself later in 1998. However, it is just as possible that a less balanced situation will emerge, with rates rising and this restricting economic growth. Within the near future, the US will see below trend growth and rising unemployment, a development which will inevitably create problems for other countries.
