Keep the home fires burning

Article Abstract:

Many people in the UK now spend at least part of their time working from home. Homeworking has traditionally been associated with low-paid employment, but this is no longer the case, especially as latest technology allows even the most skilled staff to work from home. It is often necessary to make certain adjustments to ensure that working from home is successful. Care should be taken to avoid unnecessary distractions, but is is also important to avoid becoming isolated. There is also a danger of working extremely long hours.

Creating your own space

Article Abstract:

People embarking on working from home should take the trouble to create a proper working space. This is usually in a spare bedroom, but could be in a basement, a garage or a garden shed. It is important that comfortable furniture is used and that the office area can be kept separate from family life. It is also important to check insurance policies to see whether additional cover is required, especially if clients will be visiting the home.

Eating as a family this Christmas? How novel

Article Abstract:

Fewer families in the UK now sit down all together to eat a proper meal every day. This is because many men now work longer hours and because many more women work outside the home. Many women welcome being freed of the burden of preparing a full family meal, while some feel guilty. Family meals are still common at weekends, as people try to make up for not eating together during the week.
