Where have all the Hoppers gone?

Article Abstract:

New York's Realist painters recently staged a demonstration to protest against the fact that the Whitney Museum of American Art is focusing on video, photography and installation art. This is part of a growing battle between Post-Modernism and Realism, with Realists believing that they are fighting for the soul of American art. They claim that the museum's biennials do not fulfil their brief of showing the most significant developments in recent American art, as they include very little painting.

Medicaid and morphine: the real ER

Article Abstract:

The emergency room at Newark University Hospital, New Jersey, deals with many victims of violence, including more than 2,000 incidents of blunt and penetrating traumas every year. It is very different from the emergency room drama which is portrayed in the television hospital drama 'ER,' where the medical staff are seen as stars. In real life, the medical staff receive little praise for their work, and have to deal with the results of many social problems.

Cute kid, acute failure

Article Abstract:

Macaulay Culkin was once an extremely sought-after child actor, earning vast sums of money from appearing in films such as 'Home Alone.' However, he has now reached 15, an age where has lost his child-like appeal but is too young for adult roles. He is no longer in demand, and further problems are being caused by his parents' bitter divorce battle.
