Why do we fund this Bland, Boring, Complacent bunch?

Article Abstract:

The BBC is misguided in believing that it has an absolute right to be funded through the licence fee. It is excessively bureaucratic and self-important, and regards its viewers and listeners very negatively. It is moving only gradually towards a clear notion of customer service, and there are still indications that its managers are out of touch with the general public. It seems hard to accept the fact that the licence fee continues to rise while the BBC makes increasingly large sums of money from commercial activities and pays its executives very high salaries.

Is this what we'll be paying for?

Article Abstract:

The BBC seems to be increasingly shifting away from high quality public-service broadcasting, focusing instead on dull documentaries that do nothing to enhance viewers' understanding of modern life. Most programmes are designed merely to boost ratings, and little consideration is given to genuine political debate. It is now time to consider whether the BBC really deserves public funding and to revive the vision of the BBC as a public-service broadcaster committed to supplying high quality core coverage of the arts, current affairs, documentaries and news.

The BBC: Blond, Bland and Careless

Article Abstract:

The BBC appears to be following a policy of choosing presenters who are as bland as possible. This is not openly acknowledged, even though society as a whole is becoming more open and less deferential.
