New flames from an old fire

Article Abstract:

Historical evidence shows a pattern to American race riots: they seem to happen when police brutality sparks anger in black crowds and violence erupts against the police and unpopular white targets. In 1965, the Watts riot led to numerous ghetto riots and the violence continued until 1968. Sometimes the poor social conditions are endured and other times violence breaks out. Sometimes the violence is committed against black people by white authorities and misreported.

From Johnson to Clinton

Article Abstract:

The impeachment of President Bill Clinton clearly highlights how bitter politics has become in the US. It seems likely that political divisions will now widen as Clinton faces a Senate trial. Developments over the next few months will have a negative impact on the US, and therefore on the rest of the world. The reputation of both the presidency and the Congress will be damaged, and the American system as a whole will also have been diminished.
