Agency chiefs seek help with budgets

Article Abstract:

House Science Committee Chmn Robert Walker voiced his commitment to protect science programs from sweeping budget cuts, in a hearing attended by heads of science-related administrative agencies. He does, however, want to loosen environmental regulation and move applied research to the private sector.

Walker sets off alarm bells with efforts to rein in EOS

Article Abstract:

Walker, who has been trying to scale back the EOS, proposed a Congress- appointed task force to evaluate NASA priorities. NASA and the National Academy of Sciences, whose report Walker commissioned but now disagrees with, insist that the scientific community should decide research priorities.

Gingrich sees tax cuts, reform as spur for industry

Article Abstract:

Newt Gingrich proposed tax relief to stimulate research and criticized the technolgical backwardness of federal agencies at a meeting with science journalists. Gingrich also supports abolishing regulations that hamper the development of new drugs and biotechnology products.
