Ethics: sending out the message

Article Abstract:

The NIH's requirement for formal instruction in ethical conduct for grant recipients in unfortunately necessary to make up for a lack of guidance in US graduate science programs. Students receive mixed messages from researchers' conduct and little instruction on obligations and ethical standards.

Women in forum: it's never too late to return to science

Article Abstract:

A forum on the difficulties women scientists face trying to resume their career after a few years off runs on Science's Next Wave Web site May 2-July 4, 1997. Reentry programs such as the one sponsored by the National Institutes of Health's Office of Research on Women's Health are a help.
