Balancing act

Article Abstract:

The cable-stayed Glebe Island Bridge of Sydney, Australia, was renovated using primarily cast-in-place components. The 799-meter bridge, which was constructed on the site of a 1906 swing bridge, was remodeled to accommodate the 70,000 vehicles that cross it everyday and to prepare it for the upcoming 2000 Olympic Games, which is expected to increase traffic at the bridge. Constructed by Baulderstone Hornibrook Engineering with the help of DRC Consultants Inc, the project involved rolling frame, form-traveling and self-climbing concrete construction methods. It was finished in Dec 1995.
