Bridge and tunnel security

Article Abstract:

The American Association of State Highway and Transport Officials and the Federal Highway Administration convened a panel of esteemed researchers and experts in bridge and tunnel design, construction, and operation where the major issue discussed was concerning how the nation's bridges and tunnels be rendered less vulnerable to terrorist attacks. The findings of several panel members and the progress made in implementing them are presented.

Article Abstract:

This article describes the design, construction, and installation of seawater intake pipeline in the Big Island, Hawaii to bring ocean water to the land. The pipeline consists of 1,000 feet long string of plastic pipelines anchored to the ocean floor by concrete anchors. The pipeline is constructed using the high-density polyethylene pipeline.

Flexible concrete tested on bridge deck

Article Abstract:

The development and properties of an extremely ductile concrete, made from engineered cement composites (ECC), and developed at the University of Michigan, are discussed. The concrete was first applied and tested on the deck of the Mihara Bridge, in Japan.
