Bt pollen study casts doubt on plant safety as EU halts approval of genetically modified corn

Article Abstract:

Research findings from Cornell University suggest that the Bacillus thuringiensis used in genetically modified corn can cause stunted growth or death to monarch caterpillars. The insects feed on milkweed leaves which may be contaminated with pollen from GM corn. The results of the study prompted the European Union to postpone for the meantime in giving its approval for the use of GM corn.
