Design-build continues to grow in U.S.

Article Abstract:

Design-build, a century-old construction delivery method, is expanding its market in the U.S.. This method drastically cuts the size of the request-for-proposals and reduces the procurement from 52 to 16 weeks. The design-build method helps to overcome problems in infrastructure projects by providing better quality control and cost of construction. The General Services Administration has used design-build in projects such as Reagan building in Washington, D.C., the Federal Building in San Francisco and the Foley-Square in New York.

3-D program used to design 340 M oil platform

Article Abstract:

Groner Offshore AS and Multiconsult AS, Oslo, Norway, have achieved an engineering marvel by constructing a 340 M troll under the turbulent waters of the North Sea. Extensive static-linear structural, static nonlinear structural and dynamic space-frame analysis and extensive evaluation of materials for concrete sections were conducted in the processes preceding the construction.
