Designer tissues take hold

Article Abstract:

The new field of tissue is making a leap from artificial skin to the growing of complex organs such as livers and repairing nerve-cell damage. Cellular recognition molecules attached to synthetic scaffolds not only inhibit rejection by the body, but actually direct growth of specific cell types.

New dynamic duo: PET, MRI, joined for the first time

Article Abstract:

A team of scientists from the Crump Institute for Biological Imaging at UCLA have created a prototype of a positron emission tomography (PET) that works in conjunction with a MRI. This will allow the study of the function and the anatomy of an organ with one image.
