Historic preservation: bridge project uncovers colonial battlefield

Article Abstract:

The details pertaining to the discovery of the Battle of Fish Dam Ford, a revolutionary war battle, and which was a part of the southern campaign of 1780, during a survey being carried out for a bridge replacement project, are presented. While the survey had been carried out by the South Carolina Department of Transportation, the project involves, replacing a 1930s bridge, which carries a roadway connecting 72, 12, and 215 between Chester County and Union County.

Shaping the colony: the Savannah City Plan

Article Abstract:

James Edward Oglethorpe founded Savannah in 1733 as part of his idea to help unemployed debtors become industrious wage earners. February 1733 was the date when the ship eAnneE arrived in Charleston, South Carolina with Oglethorpe and 114 prisoners on board. Oglethorpe then chose a high-ground site for the new colony and cleared it for equal division among the families.

Salt lake City's Mormon Tabernacle receives Seismic upgrade

Article Abstract:

The dome shaped Tabernacle at the Temple Square in Salt Lake City, was constructed in 1860s and has radial trusses connecting to the king truss, which arches across the width of the buildings, where scaffolding was used to install the radial trusses. The tabernacle's structural upgrade began in late November 2004 and is expected to be completed in late 2006.
