J. Robert Oppenheimer: before the war

Physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer is more popularly known as the father of the atomic bomb. However, he also contributed immensely to theoretical physics even before the war through his research on areas such as quantum-mechanical tunneling, cosmic-ray showers and quantum electrodynamics.

Why America's bridges are crumbling

Data from the Federal Highway Administration's National Bridge Inventory indicate that about 39% of highway bridges are unable to carry standard loads, or they are too narrow, or they lack sufficient clearance. Factors contributing to bridge deficiencies are explored.
