Running the dam gauntlet: in the name of science, a rubber fish serves as stunt double

Article Abstract:

A rubber fish loaded with radio sensors is being used to record the forces spawning salmon and trout are subjected to be hydroelectric turbines in dams. The data will be used to design gentler turbines for a generation of dams due for overhaul, and could save 12% of each spawning school killed by turbines annually.

Basilisk lizards have been noted for their remarkable ability to traverse on water. The mystery lies behind the fact that these reptiles are able to change footing very swiftly. Their movements are also supported by the surface tension of water molecules.
