Langmuir-Blodgett patterning: a bottom-up way to build mesostructures over large areas

Article Abstract:

A new paradigm Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) patterning is described for large-area patterning with mesostructured features. This method uses a simple fabrication technique to control the alignment, size, shape, and periodicity of self-organized phospholipid monolayer patterns with feature sizes down to 100 nm over surface areas of square centimeters.

Magnetoresistence of nanoscale molecular devices

Article Abstract:

The effects of magnetic field on conductance on nanometer molecular rings is studied. A unique property of the magnetic field, namely its ability to split degenerate levels on the ring, is shown to allow prototypes of interesting new nanoscale devices such as the three-terminal parallel logic gate.

Nanoparticles: scaffolds and building blocks

Article Abstract:

Some of the unique structural aspects of nanoparticles and the use of these attributes to the creation of devices with tunable specificity and environmental response are described. Nanoparticles are the tools for bridging the gap between "bottom-up" synthetic methods and "top-down" fabrication.
