Modeling of creep behavior of a rotating disc in the presence of both composition and thermal gradients

Article Abstract:

The creep behavior of a rotating disc mode of isotropic composite containing varying amounts of silicon carbide in the radical direction is investigated in the presence of a thermal gradient and radial direction. The study revealed that the creep behavior of a Functionally Graded Material (FGM) disc could be significantly improved by increasing the gradient of particle while keeping the same average particle content of 20 vol % silicon carbide in the disc.

Fatigue crack growth thresholds of deflected mixed-mode cracks in PWA1484

Article Abstract:

The fatigue crack growth (FCG) behavior of PWA1484 single crystals was characterized in air under mixed-mode loading at 593 degree Celsius as a function of crystallographic orientation using an asymmetric four-point bend test technique. Most mixed-mode fatigue cracks deflected from the symmetry plane and propagated as transprecipitate, noncrystallographic cracks.

Numerical simulations of the creep deformation of MMCs in 4-point bending mode

Article Abstract:

The thermo-mechanical behavior of continuously fiber reinforced composite specimens is studied by simulating 4-point bending at elevated temperatures. The implications of matrix creep in continuously reinforced metal matrix composites (MMCs) and its relevance for 4-point bending tests is discussed.
