THE CASE OF THE PILFERED PLANET

Article Abstract:

The discovery of the planet Neptune in 1846 and the dispute surrounding it are recounted. It is posited that John Couch Adams received more credit for the discovery than he was due, as he did not announce his findings to the scientific community but had simply produced some calculations.

Ten hi-fi systems are evaluated including tuners Denon TU-215RD, Sony ST0SE500, Arcam Alpha eight tuner, Denon TU-1500RD, Marantz ST-48, Goodmans Gelta 900T, NAD 414 tuner, Onkyo T-422, Teac T-H500 and Technics ST-GT650. The Sony system is well built and best in its class.
