Is the Glamour Gone?

Article Abstract:

Jack Salzman is an analyst of the cosmetics industry. He believes the accelerated flow of women entering the workforce accounted for the growth in cosmetics sales in the 1970s. He believes that the recession and the large price increases in cosmetics and fragrances account for the overall drop in sales in the industry. He also believes the growth rate in the industry is normalizing. Companies must spend more money on research and development to differentiate themselves. Also, cosmetics industries must become more conscious of conserving costs. He is bullish on the industry for 1985. Several different companies are recommended and earnings for different companies are cited. He believes the best company long-term is Noxell.
