Article Abstract:

A tiny saltmarsh vital to the migration of birds between Africa and Eurasis is being guarded against the development of an airport by Dr. Reuven Yosef, an Israeli scientist and conservationist. Yosef built the marsh on top of a former garbage dump to replace a natural site that had been destroyed. The marsh, located between the Negev and Sahara deserts, is seen as a threat to agricultural development by local inhabitants.

Baja California's rapidly growing squid fishery industry is interfering with the primary food source for the sperm whale. While research to assess the problem has just begun, a significant negative impact may manifest within a very short time. Since sperm whale females give birth once in a 20-year period, population degradation could be prompt and irreversible.

Flora MacDonald played a significant role in Scotland's history. She supported Prince Charles in his bid to take the British throne, and helped him escape to France when the attempt failed. Because of her ingenuity in disguising the prince as a woman for his flight, MacDonald became a celebrity even while serving jailed.
