Triangle of Life

Article Abstract:

Three inland saline lakes in southern Saskatchewan offer habitat for some 300 species of birds, and consequently Chaplin Lake, Reed Lake and Old Wives Lake have been designated Important Bird Areas. The lakes may become mud flats in late summer. The lakes are part of the WoodRiver watershed, which supplies water to many farms in the area, and which also collects runoff and pollution from farms.

Bet the farm on it

Article Abstract:

Island life makes clear just how much people depend on each other and on the environment. Pelee Island in Lake Erie is home to a highly diverse ecosystem, and residents help to preserve and encourage the diversity. The economy is suffering, however, as jobs disappear and people move to the mainland, but environmentally friendly farming could offer new income sources.
