Turning the tide: the Charles River Basin

Article Abstract:

John Ripley Freeman was instrumental in the construction of the Charles River Basin Dam. The dam's construction was not well received in the beginning mostly coming from the wealthy and influential residents of Beacon street who claimed the basin would become a stagnant pool. The dam was finally completed in 1910 and the basin is still used today for recreational purposes.
