Health care for older persons, a country profile: the Netherlands

Article Abstract:

This article evaluates the operation of health care system in terms of its meeting the demands and needs of the older persons in the Netherlands. Data show that about 8% of the older population live in the residential or nursing homes.

A happy person, a healthy person?

Article Abstract:

Intriguing findings of a study of Mexican Americans aged 65-99 and physical health associations with positive affect are discussed in this editorial article. Emotional wellbeing may predispose others to be more engaged and engagement in social and physical activities would be a likely outcome. Other factors, direct and indirect, can be speculated upon.

Behavioral and mood effects of Snoezelen integrated into 24-hour dementia care

Article Abstract:

Dementia is a process arising from neurological impairment and social psychological pressures. The conditions if left untreated can aggravate into malignant social psychology like infantilization, stigmatization, ignoring etc. A study is presented to show that snoezelen, a method of stimulating the senses of light, sound, smell and taste of the elderly dementia patients inhibits the progress of the dementia.
